Various left wing political groups in Georgia, including the PARTY FOR SOCIALISM AND LIBERATION and the far-left HOUSING JUSTICE LEAGUE, are once again trying to resurrect the idea of repealing Georgia’s 39 year old statewide ban on rent control.  The two groups recently sponsored a so-called People’s Town Hall at a church near Candler Park in DeKalb County, and the event  attracted more than a hundred attendees.

The event featured a series of speakers making demands for rent control and additional rent subsidies such as the Section 8 Housing Voucher program.  Landlords and real estate owners and investors were universally denounced as “enemies of the people” and “rich elites.”  Not a single speaker ever mentioned the constitutional rights or private property rights  granted to owners under the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The common theme of this event was a plan to introduce legislation in the 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly in January to repeal the statewide ban on rent control and to adopt into law a so-called “Tenant Bill of Rights”.

The Georgia Real Estate Council calls on all thinking Americans to stand up for private property rights in Georgia.  Please sign up for our monthly newsletter to stay informed regarding this threat to our rights, and please consider making a monetary donation to help defray the cost of our advocacy in the General Assembly.
